Panther Creek High School, established in 2006, is located in western Wake County and currently serves a population of approximately 2200 in grades 9-12. Panther Creek has been recognized as a North Carolina School of Distinction for the past two years. Panther Creek has also received the Governor’s 2008 Real D.E.A.L. School Award. The award is based on student achievement data from 2006-07 and 2007-08, results from the 2008 North Carolina Teacher Working Conditions Survey, and a school site visit from the Governor’s Office. Panther Creek’s survey results were exemplary in the following categories, listed in order of highest ratings: Facilities and Resources, School Leadership, Time, Professional Development, and Educator Leadership. Panther Creek is only the second North Carolina comprehensive high school ever to receive this honor and is the first Wake County high school to achieve this special recognition.
The school offers a full complement of arts, English, healthful living, math, second languages, science, and social studies courses. Honors and Advanced Placement courses along with special interest electives are offered as well. Panther Creek provides additional learning experiences through its SMART lunch program, “Students Maximizing Achievement, Relationships, and Time,” an extended lunch period that maximizes the use of time and resources to cultivate a community of learning and sharing. Various co-curricular organizations are available for student participation in addition to a range of extra-curricular options—all designed to enhance each student’s educational experience in a school focused on student engagement.
Panther Creek values high expectations, collaboration, and intervention and promotes student responsibility for learning.
As a member of the Tri-8 4-A Conference, students will have opportunities to participate in junior varsity and varsity sports.
