-> Thank you to everyone who participated in the Great American Smokeout yesterday! This is the beginning of the journey. You've taken a great step toward improving your health and the health of those around you by quitting for a day. We encourage you to continue to be smoke-free today, tomorrow, and for the rest of your life! -> The Prowler is currently on sale!!     Students or parents may order a yearbook online at www.jostensyearbooks.com and pay in full or in partial payments.  The order form can be accessed from the Panther Creek website ( http://panthercreekhs.wcpss.net/ ).   Simply click on the “Yearbook” link under the “Student Life” tab for all the information.    Also, don’t forget that if you take pictures of your club activity or sporting event, the yearbook staff wants them! Burn them to a CD or put them on a flash drive, and bring them to Room 3624.

-> Club Information -

-> Youth and Government meeting on Tuesday, November 24 during SMART Lunch A. Last day to turn in packet and $50. Also, meeting is mandatory for people in legislation. (Online registration due December 1st!) +

-> The PCHS Book Club will meet on Friday, November 20, 2009 during B lunch in the media center.  Newcomers are welcome. +

-> Do you love to write? Independent Claws is Panther Creek's online literary newspaper that lives off student submissions! If you want your writing featured on Independent Claws , send your work to: independentclaws@hotmail.com . The Creative Writing Club meets every Tuesday in M3-06 after school. 

-> All are welcome to come every Friday for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Meetings during SMART Lunch A in Room 3526. +

-> Brain Game team members will meet every Tuesday after school in Room 3615. You must have a ride home after the meeting. All are welcome.

+ This club is student initiated, not a school sponsored organization.

 

Athletics -

-> Interested in playing softball  in the spring? Come to practice on Mondays and Thursdays from 2:45 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

-> Hey athletes! Want to be in the yearbook? If your friends and family take pictures at your games … we want them! Burn  them to a CD or put them on a flash drive, then bring them to Room 3624.

-> Intramurals are being held during A and B SMART Lunch on Mondays through Thursdays. Sign up in the gym lobby.

-> ATTENTION SENIORS:

Those interested in finding out more about financial aid for college are encouraged to schedule an appointment with PCHS’s financial aid advisor, Ms. Norwood.  Ms. Norwood is only at PCHS on Wednesday from November 18 - April 2009.  Please see Student Services for more information. 

-> UNC-CH will hold its Catalyst Conference during the weekend of February 26, 2010.  If you are interested building leadership skills and being a catalyst for positive change this could be for you.  Only students in grade 9-11 are eligible.  Applications can be found in Student Services.  You may contact Eric Johnson or Molly Norwood at unccatalyst@gmail.com or call the Campus Y at (919) 962-2333. 

-> Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics

Attention sophomores & juniors:

  • Summer ventures is a four week academic program at a NC public university.
  • Students will apply for a specific program of study in the field of science or math.
  • Participants for 2009 had an average unweighted GPA of 3.86.
  • Please see Mr. Kearns in Student Services for additional information or you can visit http://www.summerventures.org for an application.
  • Completed applications are due to Student Services by January 15, 2010.

-> Governor’s Page Program

  • Students interested in spending a week in Raleigh to learn about the roles and functions of State Government should apply to the Governor’s page program.
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 15-18.
  • An application, two letters of recommendation, and an official transcript are required to apply.
  • Compensation will be $150 for the week of service.

-> North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics
Attention sophomores:

  • North Carolina School of Science and Math is a residential high school program for juniors and seniors.
  • 10th grade students interested in applying to the NCSSM must take the SAT’s on December 5th, 2009 or January 23, 2010.
  • Scores should be sent to the NCSSM admissions SAT I code 2241 Block 11A.
  • Applications are available at www.ncssm.edu/admissions.
Deadline for application is January 15, 2010.

-> Seniors - Bring copies of  your college acceptance and scholarship letters to  the  Student Services office  to receive a Catamount Paw  for each letter submitted.  The Class of 2009 totaled $3.1 million dollars in scholarship money.  Can the Class of 2010 reach $3.5 million?
